Split any image into a grid, free, online, and private

Splitter Image is a free online image splitter that cuts any photo into equal grid tiles. Choose the number of columns and rows, preview exactly where each cut falls on a live grid, then download every tile at full resolution, one at a time or all at once in a single ZIP. There is no signup, no watermark, and no upload: the whole tool runs inside your browser, so your picture never leaves your device. It is the fastest way to make an Instagram grid, build a seamless puzzle feed, or split a large image for printing across several pages. Also known as a photo splitter, picture splitter, or image divider, it works with JPG, PNG, and WEBP files of any size.

How to split an image into a grid

  1. Upload your photo: click Choose an image, drag and drop a file anywhere on the page, or paste straight from your clipboard.
  2. Pick your grid: tap a preset such as 3 × 3, or type custom columns and rows (up to 20 × 20). The numbered preview shows every cut line and the order of the tiles.
  3. Adjust the output: choose PNG, JPEG, or WEBP, set the export quality, and add an optional gap between tiles for collage-style spacing.
  4. Download: click any single tile to save it on its own, or hit Download Tiles (ZIP) to get the whole grid at once.

Popular grid sizes

Not sure how many rows and columns you need? These are the most common ways people split an image:

GridTilesBest for
3 × 39The classic Instagram grid, one image across nine posts
2 × 24A simple quadrant split or four-piece print
4 × 416Large puzzle feeds and detailed photo walls
3 × 13A wide panorama or a single Instagram carousel row
1 × 33A tall vertical strip
2 × 36A six-page poster printed across multiple sheets

Split an image in half, or into 2, 3, or 4 pieces

Need a quick, even cut instead of a full grid? Use the one-tap presets to split an image in half: pick 2 × 1 for left and right halves, or 1 × 2 for top and bottom halves. To split a picture into 2, 3, or 4 equal parts, choose the matching preset or just type the number of columns and rows. Every cut stays editable: drag the centre line to shift the split, or add another line for an extra piece. It works the same whether you are splitting a JPG, PNG, or WEBP image.

What can you use a split image for?

  • Instagram grids: turn one photo into a 3 × 3 (or larger) layout that forms a single picture on your profile.
  • Seamless puzzle feeds: span a panorama across a whole row or your entire feed.
  • Multi-page poster printing: split a high-resolution image into tiles, print each on standard paper, and tape them into a giant poster.
  • Photo collages and panels: break artwork into evenly sized panels for framing or canvas prints.
  • Cutting sprites or assets: slice a uniform sheet into equal pieces for design and game projects.

How to make a 3 × 3 Instagram grid

Upload your photo and choose the 3 × 3 preset to get nine equal tiles. Because Instagram fills your profile grid from the top-left but you post one image at a time, you upload them in reverse order: start with the bottom-right tile (number 9) and finish with the top-left (number 1). The numbered preview makes the order easy to follow. For the cleanest result, start from a square image (crop it first if needed) so each tile is a perfect square.

Key features

  • Custom grids up to 20 × 20 (400 tiles), plus one-tap presets.
  • Draggable grid lines: move any line with your mouse or finger to make unequal tiles, and add or remove lines for a fully custom split.
  • Live numbered preview so you can see every cut and the posting order before you download.
  • Save a single tile with one click, or download the whole grid as a single ZIP.
  • Export to PNG, JPEG, or WEBP with adjustable quality. PNG keeps transparency.
  • Optional gap between tiles for collage and grid-with-spacing layouts.
  • Works offline & installable: add it to your home screen and split images with no connection.
  • 100% private and free: no signup, no watermark, no upload.

Custom and unequal tiles: drag the grid lines

Splitter Image is not limited to an even grid. Every cut line is draggable: grab any line with your mouse or your finger and slide it to make the tiles on each side bigger or smaller. Need more pieces in one direction? Tap + Column or + Row to drop in another line, then position it exactly where you want the cut. To take a line away, double-click or double-tap it, and press Equalize at any time to snap everything back to a perfectly even grid. A live readout shows the exact pixel size of the tiles while you drag, so you can match a precise layout. This makes it easy to cut around a subject, carve out a header strip, or slice a sprite sheet into rows of different heights.

Split a large image to print a poster

To turn one high-resolution photo into a wall-sized poster, choose how many columns and rows of pages you want, for example 3 × 3 for a nine-sheet poster, then download the tiles. Print each tile at full size on standard A4 or Letter paper, trim the margins, and tape or mount the sheets together to assemble a giant print. Because every tile is cut from the full-resolution source, the finished poster stays crisp even at large sizes.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. All processing happens locally in your browser using the HTML canvas. Your image is never uploaded, stored, or sent to a server, so it stays completely private, and once the page has loaded, splitting works even without an internet connection.
